Angkor Wat-Cambodia

A few pics of Angkor Wat Temple Complex, and a couple shots of the floating village. Hundreds of villages live on the water of Tonle Sap, a huge lake in Central Cambodia. The Mekong river backs up and floods the lake every year, so the water rises and falls about twenty feet. Chanda couldn't stand the poverty of the lake people, and insisted that we buy school supplies for the "floating" school. Of course the "floating" store completely ripped us off, but the kids got their books and pencils.

Good Morning Vietnam

Here's a few snaps of Vietnam…We started out in Hanoi, flew south to Ho Chi Minh City, and then side-tripped to Cambodia to see Angkor Wat. While in Hanoi we stayed with the Omdahl Family. Chanda knew them from BYU, and they worked at the US Embassy.

1. Jack in the Cu Chi Tunnels outside of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). This tunnel complex connected to the Ho Chi Minh Trail which connected all the way north to Hanoi.

2. Jack at the Orphanage. The Omdahl family works with a local orphanage in Hanoi. So as part of our trip, we gathered up clothes and supplies in extra suitcases and brought them over with us. The orphanage is run by the monks at a Buddist temple.

3. Jack with Addison Omdahl at the "Hanoi Hilton" where John McCain was imprisoned.

4. Chanda found this salon near the Omdahls house which catered to foreigners. So for Vietnam prices we enjoyed manicures and full body massages.

5. Chanda and Natasha doing a morning workout in Hanoi to the amusement of the local farmers.

6. Jim eating PHU, the local breakfast. He regrets it later.

7. Jack - bartering for snacks - on our cruise ship at Halong Bay, 3 hrs north of Hanoi.

8. Halong Bay is several thousand limestone islands scattered throughout this large bay. We did a two day cruise on the bay.

9. Chanda — Morning on Halong Bay.

10. Halong Bay —Dinner toast on the "cruise ship".

11. The Omdahl home in Hanoi. All the embassy staff lived in the nicest homes in Hanoi. This is four stories. The houses are very narrow, because property taxes are determined by the width of your home.

12. Our hosts — Omdahl Family

13. Buddist Temple, Hanoi

14. Video Clip is the entrance to the Cu Chi Tunnels. The North Vietnamese purposefully made the tunnels tiny so the "big" Americans couldn't fit.

Fence is done!

We finally installed the Celeste containment system... aka a fence. Celeste will be walking come spring so we needed to install window well covers as well as a fence so she wouldn't go walking into the nearby street! Anyways.. here are a couple of pictures for your enjoyment. We hope to have a basement finished in next year or so.. after that.. we can have any overflow from Mom and Dad's over here!

Payback for two years of BYU fun. Hopefully next year we will be able to get them again.
